Background: Literature data on the effect of methionine functional activity and, especially, morphological changes in liver parenchyma animals different ages are sporadic, and research results often ambiguous.
 Aim: The purpose this work was to study compare morphofunctional rats prolonged administration L-methionine.
 Material Methods: experiment performed 48 male Wistar 3 15 months age. Animals experimental group received L-methionine at a dose 250 mg/kg body weight addition standard diet, daily for 21 days. Histological preparations were prepared from tissue by technique. Morphometry digital images using computer program «Image J». Succinate dehydrogenase protein concentration determined suspension hepatocyte mitochondria.
 Results: It revealed that 21-day led hypertrophy nucleus, an increase nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio, number binuclear hepatocytes, nucleolus cell nucleus. relative area ​​the sinusoids network increased 50% 3-month-old animals. This indicated better blood filling parenchyma. succinate mitochondria rats. energy potential protein-synthetic activity.
 Conclusions: prophylactic doses healthy leads appearance pronounced signs hepatocytes. severity has distinct age-dependent character. In young rats, it is more than mature important practical medicine when therapeutic purposes.
